Introduction of biometric visa
On 11 October 2011 the Schengen member states introduced the Visa Information System (VIS). The VIS will also be used to store the biometric data (10 fingerprints and the facial image) of the visa applicants. The diplomatic representations of the Schengen member states will be gradually connected to the system region by region.
Along with the connection to the VIS on 2nd October 2012, all diplomatic representations of the Schengen member states in the United Arab Emirates have to capture the biometric data of persons applying for a Schengen visa.

Important notice re appointments, general information
Please note that since 1st December 2011, a prior appointment made through the company VFS is required before submitting visa applications at the Consulate General of Switzerland. For appointments and information please contact the following website:

General Information
The Association agreements of Switzerland to Schengen-Dublin concluded with the European Union entered into force on 12 December 2008.
Switzerland applies the Schengen regulations concerning the issuance of visas. In most cases, the visa is valid for entering the territory of all Schengen member states. This also applies to Schengen visas issued by other Schengen States which permit entry to Switzerland.
The Schengen regulations apply to the examination of requests for short-term stay visaswhose validity does not exceed 90 days, within a 6 months period.
The time needed for a visa request to be processed may vary from case to case, but in general takes 2 weeks for a short stay visa. However, please note that a visa application cannot be submitted more than 3 months or less than 2 weeks before the planned trip.The issuance of long term visas for more than three months remains subject to national procedures. Such visa will permit only entry to the territory of the issuing state and transit via another Schengen state.
The former Swiss visa is still valid to enter Switzerland until its date of expiry but it does not entitle to enter other Schengen states.

Other important notice!
- The visa application must be submitted in person to the Consulate General in Switzerland in Dubai.
- If you are visiting more than one Schengen country, the visa application must be submitted at Consulate of the country where you spend most of your stay.
- The passport must be valid for three months beyond the stay in the Schengen states.
- The application form must be duly completed (in full) and signed by the applicant.
- During the processing time the passport has to remain with the Consulate General of Switzerland.
- The visa fee has to be paid upon submission of the visa application (please see details below).
- No fee is refunded for rejected visa applications.
- No information on the status of the visa is given before collection.
How to apply for a visa?
Complete the visa application form online, print and bring it with you together with all other requirements (see under downloads). The forms are provided in different languages, please note that the form has to be filled in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish. No Arabic, Chinese, Russian etc. will be accepted.
Visa fee
The visa fees are as follows (the equivalent of EUR 60.00/35.00 at the Swiss governments exchange rate as of January 29, 2012):
- Persons above the age of 12 years: AED 300.00
- Children between 6 and 12 years: AED 175.00
- Children below the age of 6 years: free of charge
The fee is to be paid in cash (personal checks and credit cards are not accepted).
Please note that the VFS appointment fee is not included in these prices.

If your application must be submitted to the competent authorities in Switzerland for a decision (e. g. work, study or residence visa), an additional postage fee of AED 25.00 will be charged.

Responsibility of the Visa Officer

No claim is possible for cancelled reservations.
Only the immigration officers or the Swiss Federal or Cantonal authorities are competent to ultimately accept or deny visa applications.
The operators (such as airlines and travel agencies) must use appropriate means to inform their customers of potential travel requirement issues before making any non refundable reservations.
